Hezbollah launches anti-ship missile against northern Israel for the first time

The Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah confirmed this Monday the launch for the first time of a ‘Noor’ type anti-ship cruise missile against the Israeli town of Kfar Giladi, located in the extreme northeast of Israel.

“Our mujahideen attacked the Zionist colony of Kafr Giladi with a ‘Noor’ missile,” Hezbollah reported in a brief statement carried by the Al Manar television network, related to the Islamist militia.

The ‘Noor’ are a type of long-range anti-ship missile manufactured by Iran and inspired by the Chinese C-802. Initially the projectile had a range of 30 kilometers, but its updates allow some models to be launched up to 300 kilometers.

This is the first time that Hezbollah has used this type of projectile against Israel since the resurgence of hostilities almost a year ago, after the start of the war in the Gaza Strip, according to the Israeli and Lebanese press.

Hezbollah has launched attacks against northern Israel since October last year in solidarity with Gaza. Israel intensified its offensive against the Lebanese militia in the middle of the month and in just fifteen days it has eliminated a large part of its leadership with attacks against Lebanon.
