Helena Kennedy: Judicial reform could be an excuse to interfere with the independence of justice

Bianca Jagger, the president of the Foundation for the Defense of Human Rights that bears her name, and British lawyer Helena Kennedy agreed that the judicial reform in Mexico, enacted by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, puts the independence of the judiciary at risk. Citing the president of the Supreme Court of Justice, Norma Piña, Jagger assured that judicial independence is not a privilege, but the main guarantee of impartiality, and hopes that the country’s elected president, Claudia Sheinbaum, can reflect on this issue.
