Heavy flooding in Iran leaves at least 69 dead over the weekend

July 31 (EUROPA PRESS) –

At least 69 people have died and 45 are still missing during the last 48 hours in Iran as a result of the strong storms that have been plaguing the country, and specifically the capital, Tehran, and surroundings, for days, as confirmed this Sunday by the Ministry of Interior.

So far, more than 40 people have been seriously injured and 37,000 have been left homeless, while, according to the balance of the Ministry, more than 20,000 houses have been seriously damaged.

Twenty-four of the country’s 31 provinces, including the capital Tehran, have been affected by storms in the last 72 hours, according to the balance provided by Nejad Jahani, head of Iran’s Crisis Management Organization, to Iran Press. News Agency.

Police have closed roads in rural areas of the country due to the possibility of landslides, while authorities fear more deaths in the coming hours due to the arrival of new storms beyond this weekend.
