Up to 14 people have been injured as a result of a head-on collision between a car and a bus that occurred late Saturday in the German city of Wismar, in the north of the country, the Police reported this Sunday.

The incident took place around 6:50 p.m. (local time) on Saturday, when the driver of a car invaded the oncoming lane and crashed head-on into a public bus.

The driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old man, was trapped inside his car after the collision and remained trapped until the arrival of emergency services. Firefighters rescued him and took him by helicopter to a nearby hospital where he is in critical condition. His companion suffered serious injuries, according to police.

For his part, the bus driver, 35, was also taken to a hospital, where he is recovering from minor injuries, according to police reports.

Additionally, three other passengers on the bus suffered serious injuries, while eight more people were slightly injured, according to a press release.

As far as material damage is concerned, the Police have estimated the total damage at 48,000 euros and have declared that neither the car nor the bus are any longer “roadworthy”, so they have confiscated them for subsequent forensic analysis.

“Due to the large number of injured, a total of seven ambulance teams, two emergency doctors, a senior emergency doctor, a rescue service organization leader, a rescue helicopter and 34 emergency services of the corps have been deployed. professional and volunteer firefighters from Wismar”, states the same statement.

The police authorities have indicated that, for the moment, the causes of the accident are unknown and that, since drug use by the driver of the vehicle could not be ruled out, a blood sample has been taken and his license has been confiscated. of driving.
