The competition, why deny it, is being fierce. We were talking a few weeks ago about the counter-programming maneuvers of the streaming platforms to put their star series of the season in the most favorable situation: Disney+ delays ‘Andor’, ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ premieres two episodes in one fell swoop so as not to coincide in its ending ‘Game of Thrones: The House of the Dragon’…
…and now, HBO Max, on the day Prime Video celebrates its adaptation of Tolkien, it releases the first episode of its series in Youtube. A relatively unusual maneuver given how recent the premiere is, and which is the perfect excuse to get hooked on this series that works as a kind of summarized and compressed version of the intrigues of ‘Game of thrones’.
To access this first episode you just have to go to the HBO Max YouTube channel. The only drawback is that it is only in the original version and with English subtitles, but luckily the AIs do their job well, and the version translated into Spanish, despite some occasional errors, is well above the usual in these cases. Just don’t expect a dubbed version.
‘The House of the Dragon’ takes us back to a time in Westeros that takes place decades before what we saw in ‘Game of Thrones’. The peaceful regent Viserys I Targaryen has before him a few disputes in court for the lack of an heir for the Iron Throne. The two main rivals are his daughter Rhaenyra and her brother (and Rhaenyra’s uncle) Daemon. It is only the beginning of the long road to the mythical civil war known as the Dance with Dragons.
