If the video game industry has grown so much so far, it is thanks to the revolution that Nintendo brought with it in its classic systems and franchises since the mid-1980s. However, the company’s history goes back much further, when it was founded in 1889, which allows it to be celebrating its 133 years of existence on this day.
As you surely know, Nintendo was founded on September 23, 1889, surprising everyone with its curious name, which can be translated as “In the hands of heaven” in Japanese.
The origins of the company were led by Fusajiro Yamauchi, who pointed Nintendo to the entertainment sector, all with Hanafuda cards, a traditional card game that was quite popular in the Asian country, for which he dedicated himself to producing them until the mid-1950s. fifty.
It was after the Second World War, and already with Hiroshi Yamauchi as its boss since 1950, that Nintendo decided to expand its activities to different areas, including the food sectors, taxi services and Love Hotels (which could be a simple rumor) , among others.

However, after a while Yamauchi became convinced that he wanted to target the company with a much more family-oriented audience, so in the late 1960s he became interested in electronic toys.
In the 1970s, the company obtained the license to sell a console called TV-Game 6, which allowed it to achieve the necessary success to venture with Game & Watch and arcade games, where the game of a curious gorilla called Donkey Kong impressed everyone.
However, Nintendo’s great leap occurred in the 80s, when it launched the Famicom and, in addition to Donkey Kong, introduced other already classic sagas such as Super Mario Bros. Y The Legend of Zelda.
Since then, the company has offered us systems such as the NES, SNES, Game Boy (in all its variants), Nintendo 64, Nintendo GameCube, Nintendo DS/3DS, Wii and Nintendo Switch, as well as others that did not have the expected success such as the Virtual Boy and Wii U.
