Jul 31. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The funeral of the leader of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), Ismail Haniyeh, who died early Wednesday morning in an attack on the building where he was staying during a visit to Tehran, will take place on Thursday in the Iranian capital.
This has been confirmed by the country’s authorities, who have indicated that his remains will later be transferred to Doha, the Qatari capital, according to information from the Iranian news agency Tasnim.
The coffin is scheduled to be taken from Tehran University to Azadi Square at 8am local time. Iranian authorities are still investigating the attack, which took place at around 2am when Haniyeh and his bodyguard – who was also killed in the attack – were sleeping in a residence for veterans in the northern district of the capital.
Preliminary information released by Iranian media indicates that the attack was carried out with a guided missile, although there is no further information on the matter.
