US is “responsible” for hunger in the Gaza Strip
June 29 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Hamas leader Usama Hamdan said Saturday from Beirut that there had been no progress in negotiating a ceasefire agreement with Israel and accused the United States of being “responsible” for the hunger that is ravaging the population of the Gaza Strip.
Hamdan has assured that Hamas is willing to “work positively” with any ceasefire proposal that includes the end of the war, he explained at a press conference from Beirut, but has stressed that the population of Gaza has important needs that can only be met. They would be covered by the entry of 500 trucks a day with humanitarian aid into the enclave.
In this sense, he has accused Israel of “preventing the entry of aid” and causing “a state of great famine” in the Gaza Strip, which it uses as a weapon of war. Hamdan considers that the United States is also “responsible” because he “continues to insist on his blatant stance” of blaming Hamas for the lack of progress, according to the Lebanese press.
He described the construction of a temporary US dock on the coast of the Gaza Strip as “bad propaganda” and stressed that this infrastructure has not facilitated the delivery of aid and has even underlined that aid has decreased since its installation.
The situation in Gaza is already “tragic” and he has warned that there will be deaths imminently due to lack of food. 70 percent of the population is at risk of hunger, according to UN data, he recalled.
He also denounced the “systematic destruction” of roads, sewage systems and drinking water by the Israeli military occupation forces. The situation is reminiscent of “Nazi detention and extermination camps, or even worse.”
Hamdan has urged the international community to assume its responsibility and stop the genocide by opening the crossings and withdrawing Israeli forces from key points, such as the Rafah crossing that connects the enclave with Egypt.
