Hamas criticizes Palestinian Authority for detaining protesters celebrating October 7 attacks

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) criticized the Palestinian Authority this Monday for detaining numerous protesters who were participating in a march celebrating the first anniversary of the October 7, 2023 attacks in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

“We condemn the arrest of some protesters by Palestinian Authority security forces at a demonstration in Ramallah on the occasion of the first anniversary of the ‘Al Aqsa Flood’ operation, as well as the detention of leader Omar Assaf during a sit-in in front of to the Intelligence headquarters in Al Biré,” reads a Hamas statement shared by the Palestinian newspaper ‘Filastin’, which is related to the group.

Following this, he has requested the immediate release of the detainees and the end of the “persecution campaign” against “activists” and “defenders” of Human Rights, considering that this type of actions constitute a “flagrant violation” of joint action. Palestinian society and “reprehensible” behavior at a time when Israel is in a “war of genocide” against the Palestinians.

Hamas also attacked the Palestinian Authority, headed by Mahmoud Abbas, at the end of September, considering that its continued operations against “resistance fighters” in the West Bank represented “practical participation” in Israel’s “brutal aggression.”
