Hamas condemns campaigns of incitement to violence against Al-Aqsa Mosque

September 13 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Friday condemned recent Israeli “campaigns of incitement” to violence against the Al-Aqsa mosque, as they represent a “dangerous escalation” and seek to break the status quo at the holy site.

Palestinian militants have criticised a video released by the extremist Orthodox group Temple Mount Faithful showing the Al Aqsa mosque, Islam’s third holiest site, in flames, Hamas-affiliated Filistin reported.

Such actions, which take place under the protection of the Israeli government of Benjamin Netanyahu, “are part of the Zionist plans to Judaize the area, erase its Islamic characteristics and extend the control of the settlers” in the area.

He has therefore called on Arab and Islamic nations, including organisations such as the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, to work to protect the site and prevent further attacks.

The Esplanade of the Mosques – or Temple Mount for Jews – is the religious heart of East Jerusalem and rests on one of its sides on the Wailing Wall, the last vestige of the Jewish Temple of Solomon, which is why Muslims fear that Israel seeks to destroy the Al Aqsa mosque to build a Third Jewish Temple in Jerusalem.
