The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) has called for a “day of rage” on Friday in memory of its leader, Ismail Haniyeh, who died early Wednesday morning after an attack attributed to Israel that hit the Iranian capital, Tehran.
The militia has called on people in Gaza and the West Bank to take to the streets on Friday to denounce Haniyeh’s death and condemn the “genocidal” war against the Palestinian people, according to the Hamas-affiliated newspaper ‘Filistin’.
Haniyeh’s body arrived in the Qatari capital of Doha on Thursday after thousands of mourners paid their last respects to the former head of Hamas’s political bureau at a ceremony in Tehran presided over by the country’s supreme leader, Ali Khamenei.
Haniyeh, who was visiting Tehran after attending the inauguration of President Masud Pezeshkian, died early Wednesday after an attack attributed to Israel but on which its authorities have not yet commented. Hamas and its partners, including Lebanon and Iran, have warned of a strong response against Israel.
