September 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) on Friday described as an “atrocious act” the death of American activist Aysenur Ezgi Eygi, of Turkish descent, by Israeli army gunfire during a demonstration in the town of Beita, near the West Bank city of Nablus.
“This heinous act is part of the crimes committed by the occupation against those who stand up in solidarity with the Palestinian people,” the armed group said in a statement, in which it deplored what happened. “These acts are systematic and are carried out by both the occupation forces and the settlers,” it said.
Hamas, which has called on the international community to “bring those responsible for these fascist acts” to justice, has said that it is through these “crimes” that the Israeli government is trying to “silence every voice raised against its policies.”
The 26-year-old activist was taking part in a protest against Israeli settlement expansion in the Occupied Palestinian Territories when she was shot in the head.
