Several people with firearms fired on the car of Haitian journalist Roberson Alphonse in the early hours of October 25, 2022, when he was on his way to the radio station Radio Magik9 to host the Panel Magik morning show in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.
The editor-in-chief of the newspaper Le Nouvellistewho is also director of Magik9Franz Duval public several messages on his Twitter account, where he gave a detailed account of what happened.
According to Duval, a “good Samaritan” helped Roberson put a tourniquet on him to stop the bleeding before 7:00 am and stayed with him until two medical teams arrived at the scene.
Alphone is currently in hospital receiving medical attention for his injuries. Duval said her condition is “stable” and that she spoke to the reporter.
In a note that appeared in Le Nouvellistethe administration presented the incident as an attempt to assassinate the journalist.
Haiti has been engulfed in a wave of violence since the government announced the suspension of fuel subsidies last September. Criminal gangs seized the nation’s main port and the United Nations have reported acts of torture and rape by the gangs.
