The famous volleyball anime Haikyuu!! continues to expand its franchise beyond the pages of manga and the screens of anime. This contemporary classic written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate and which originally emerged as a manga, is preparing to return to the theater stage with the new work titled “Gekidan Haikyuu!!: Deai” (Encounter). Set in the iconic “Battle of the Trash Can”, the confrontation between the Karasuno and Nekoma teams, this production will arrive in May 2025 on the stages of Tokyo and Osaka.
The story of Haikyuu!! It has been a very special and emotional experience for millions of followers because it addresses very recurring themes in sports such as personal improvement, teamwork and the intensity of the game. The work “Deai” focuses on one of the most anticipated encounters by fans: the duel between Karasuno and Nekoma. This confrontation is one of the best known and most iconic in manga and is due to the historical rivalry between both schools and its emotional meaning. In addition to the matches on the field, the play will explore the ties between the characters and the stories that connect them.

The production will have two main headquarters:
- Tokyo, May 17-25, 2025, at the Shinagawa Prince Hotel Stella Ball.
- Osaka, from May 30 to June 1, 2025, at the Cool Japan Park Osaka WW Hall.
About the main cast
In this new play, the cast of “Gekidan Haikyuu!!: Deai” It brings together actors who are expected to be able to give life to the beloved characters of the series with all their essence. The main characters will be played by:
- Kenshiro Kato as Shoyo Hinata, the charismatic and energetic protagonist.
- Seiya Wakabayashi as Tobio Kageyama, Karasuno’s prodigious point guard.
- Takeru Minato as Kenma Kozume, Nekoma’s strategist.
- Seiya Omura as Tetsuro Kuroo, the captain who leads with cunning and charisma.
The new GEKIDAN theater company “HAIKYU!!”, created in 2022, seeks to surpass the success of its predecessor, the popular series of theatrical works titled Hyper Projection Engeki Haikyuu!! (which took place between 2015 and 2021). Directed by Kenta Suga, who previously played Hinata in the original productions, and with a script by Masami Ito, fans are excited to see what new features this new edition presents.
For its part, the music will be provided by Shunsuke Wada and the choreography and staging will be the responsibility of the HIDALI team, famous for its innovative directing methods.
