H2Med passes the first technical exam in Brussels to obtain European funding

BRUSSELS, June 18 () –

The H2Med hydrogen corridor project, of which Spain, France, Portugal and Germany are part, has received a first positive technical qualification from the European Commission to be eligible for community financing, according to government sources who celebrate having passed the first phase of a process that will not culminate until at least November.

Moncloa submitted its candidacy to the call for Projects of Common Interest (PCI) on December 16 and has now passed the first technical examination by Brussels, although it is not yet the final list, according to information advanced by Bloomberg that sources from the Ministry of Ecological Transition have confirmed to Europa Press.

The same sources have affirmed that the Government celebrates this first step, since H2Med is a “strategic” commitment for Spain, which has promoted, together with France and Portugal, what it hopes to become the first renewable hydrogen hub in the world.

After this first technical qualification whose “weight” has been highlighted by the ministry, the projects that have not passed this cut-off will be able to present their allegations until the end of June, when the Commission will make the list of projects with a positive evaluation official.

Immediately afterwards, a political analysis will be carried out, which will be followed, in the month of November, by the publication in Brussels of the final list with the details of the projects that will be classified as Community Interest and the amounts of financing to which they will opt. each one of them.

The evaluation results in a regional list of proposed projects, which the Commission adopts as an EU-wide list by means of a delegated act and submits it to the European Parliament and the Council.

These institutions will have two months to oppose the list -with the possibility of an extension of another two months-, but they cannot request modifications to the list and, if none of them rejects it, it will enter into force.
