The UN Secretary General, António Guterres, arrived in the Ukrainian city of Lviv on Wednesday, where this Thursday he will hold a meeting with the presidents of Ukraine and Turkey, Volodimir Zelenski and Recep Tayyip Erdogan, respectively.
A spokesman for Guterres’ office, Farhan Haq, confirmed at a press conference the arrival of the UN chief from Ukraine, who aspires to deal ‘in situ’ with key issues such as the agreement between kyiv and Moscow to export cereals or the situation around the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe.
Guterres also plans to travel to Odessa, one of the ports from which grain ships sail under a pact brokered by Turkey and the United Nations. He will then travel to Istanbul to visit the center from which these exports are coordinated.
This week the former Secretary General of the UN Ban Ki Moon visited Ukraine, representing the group The Elders – which brings together former world leaders – and accompanied by former Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos.
