Gunmen kill bodyguard of former Nigerian state governor of Imo Rochas Okorocha

June 19 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Several armed men attacked the convoy of the former governor of the Nigerian state of Imo Rochas Okorocha (2011-2019) in the community of Ihube, in the south of the country, killing the police escort.

Okorocha was attacked when he was returning from a burial that took place last Friday in the state of Enugu, whose authorities had invited him, according to local media reports.

The senator also reported the attack this Sunday, in the company of Senator Samuel Anyanwu, candidate for governor of the People’s Democratic Party for the elections that will take place in November this year.

At the event, Okorocha has shown his sadness at being safe in a nearby state and being attacked in his own state: “I am angry. I am very angry. I am angry that I have spent two days in Enugu and nothing has happened to me,” has declared.

MORE THAN A DOZEN DEATHS IN THE CENTER OF THE COUNTRY

The Nigerian authorities, on the other hand, have reported that at least thirteen people have been killed in two attacks allegedly carried out in retaliation between herders and farming communities in the Plateau state, in the center of the country.

Last Thursday, gunmen killed five herders in Rawu village, while suspected herders invaded the community on Friday, killing eight people.

The State Police have not been able to confirm the balance of victims, as they are awaiting the report with the provisional data of the incident, reports the newspaper ‘Premium Times’.

Plateau State Police Chief Bartholomew Onyenka announced Saturday the deployment of Mobile Police Force (MPF) personnel to troubled local governments in the state. He indicated that the deployment was due to the necessary response to the murders in the state and to bring the perpetrators to justice and implement peace in the area.
