“Despite the peaceful nature of the demonstration, the security forces have found a way to use their firearms, killing a young man named Mamadu Bailo Sidbé and injuring several others with bullets. Since the day before the demonstration, they have carried carried out numerous selective arrests of officials of the (Union of Democratic Forces of Guinea) UFDG and hundreds of young people, most of them minors,” reads a statement.
The FVG have denounced the “massive deployment of tanks and weapons of war, as well as the mobilization of thousands of soldiers, gendarmes and police armed to the teeth.” “We regret and strongly condemn these actions planned and ordered by the top leaders of the junta that took our country hostage. We assure the population that these crimes will not go unpunished,” they stated.
Likewise, they have taken the opportunity to applaud the “discipline and responsibility” of their supporters to demand the departure of the junta and the implementation of a civil transition. “So much so that the city was largely paralyzed,” they celebrated.
Meanwhile, the Guinean Government has appeared publicly to communicate only that the leader of the military junta and transitional president of Guinea, Mamady Doumbouya, will leave the country this Tuesday to attend the inauguration ceremony of the president of Ghana, John Mahama, after his victory in the elections held at the beginning of December.

“It is essential that all sectors of society, including civil society organisations, political parties, media organizations and the general public, are actively involved in shaping the future of Guinea and are allowed to participate fully. in the referendum and the electoral process,” added the spokesman for US diplomacy, Matthew Miller.
The military junta, in power since the 2021 coup against Alpha Condé, dissolved more than 50 parties at the end of October and placed around 70 under observation, including the two main opposition formations, amid rising tensions. ahead of the elections, for which there is still no date.
