Government will receive US$ 70 million from the IDB for energy transition

The costs of accelerating the energy transition in the country

In the midst of President Gustavo Petro’s meeting with the President of the Inter-American Development Bank, IDB, Ilan Goldfjan, andn the framework of the World Economic Forum, he announced that they will give the country US$ 73.5 million.

The idea with this plan is to promote the energy transition and implement the Plan to Contain Deforestation in the Amazon. This would be the first support from the multilateral banks to the government of Gustavo Petro.

In this sense, it was established that 70 million dollars would be directed to strengthening the energy transition. This would imply investments in infrastructure and technology in energy communities.

Secondly, the remaining 3.5 million dollars would be for the Amazon basin in terms of design and the structuring of financial mechanisms and a regulatory framework to implement Payment for Environmental Services (PSA) and mechanisms to reduce Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation (REDD+).

The idea is that they be tDirect transfers for environmental conservation services that help contain and stop deforestationin coordination with local communities and under the leadership of the Ministry of the Environment.

Finally, the president of the IDB stressed that this body could support the financing of theLogistics for the Amazon Summit and its technical tables.

It should be noted that the IDB had approved a ctechnical operation of 450,000 dollars to start supporting the Ministry of the Environment in the implementation of the Containment Plan.
