( Spanish) – Mexico carried out what it considered the “historic seizure” of a ton of fentanyl pills in Sinaloa, Omar García Harfuch, the country’s Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, reported this Wednesday in a message on his X account. The state, located in the northwest of the country, is going through a wave of violence that has left at least 52 dead in just one week, according to data from the local Prosecutor’s Office.

The operation was carried out through two different procedures headed by the Ministry of the Navy, and in which personnel from the Ministry of National Defense, the Attorney General’s Office of the Republic, the National Guard, and the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection collaborated. of the country, said García Harfuch.

The official added that two people were arrested and assured that these types of actions “will continue until the violence decreases in the state of Sinaloa.”

Violence in Sinaloa, birthplace of the cartel known by the same name, has intensified since the capture in the United States of Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada and Joaquín Guzmán López, son of Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán, which occurred on July 25.

Until October 2024, at least 190 people have died, and only since Monday, November 25 and Monday, December 2, there have been at least 52 homicides in the state.
