Google's contributions to open source grow, which remains in the first position of OSCI

Google is the commercial company that has made the most contributions to the Open Source in the past year, followed by Microsoft and Red Hat, according to the July Open Source Contributor Index (OSCI).

Google has increased its contribution to open source by 10.5 percent compared to July 2021, with 5,421 taxpayers (company workers), 347 more than a year before. In this way, it maintains the first position it reached at the beginning of the year, relegating Microsoft to a second position.

Precisely the Redmond company has always positioned itself as the one that contributed the most to open source. In the july indexhis second place reflects a decrease in contributions of 1.9 percent compared to the previous yearwith 5,268 taxpayers.

behind is Red Hat, which grows 14.2 percent compared to July 2021 (3,666 contributors); Intel, with an increase in its contributions of 17.7 percent (2,237 contributors); and IBM, which fell 1.7 percent (2,089 taxpayers).

The OSCI also collects other data, such as the most used languages, a list that leads python (15.5%) and TypeScript (15.1%); and user licenses, with GPL-3.0 and Apache-2.0 accounting for 60 percent.
