The Chromebooks they are typically laptops with very modest hardware running the cloud-oriented Chrome OS. Precisely, the rise of cloud gaming services has been what has given rise to the occasional model with a gaming design and orientation, but maintaining limited hardware with low-power Intel UHD integrated graphics such as the ASUS Vive CX55 Flip.
AMD recently launched its line of processors oriented to Chromebooks, equipped with Radeon integrated graphics, however, what they say from the portal 9to5google the thing is Google and NVIDIA are working to bring NVIDIA GeForce RTX dedicated graphics support to these types of laptops.
This would lead to a new generation of more powerful Chromebooks that could run games with some graphic quality locally. To do this, they are working on prototypes that include 13th generation Intel Raptor Lake processors together with graphics such as the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4050.
Naturally, this will mean a redesign of both the hardware of the chromebooks, which will have to accept higher charging powers, as well as being able to function by taking power directly from the socket and not from the battery. On the other hand, the catalog of games will be much smaller than that available on Windows computers, although platforms such as Steam and its SteamOS A good number of games have already been migrated to Linux, the system on which Chrome OS is based.
It remains to be seen if this proposal comes to fruition and Chromebooks carve out a niche in the competitive market for gaming laptops.
