Google is working on two new formats for audiovisual contentwhich would offer free of licenses, so that manufacturers could incorporate it with the aim of offering premium experiences, as Dolby does.
These formats, known internally as Caviar Projectwould target premium audiovisual experiences, with which Google would search compete in the market with Dolby, whose Vision and Atmos brands are recognizable among video and audio consumers, respectively.
Google’s bet is to offer an HDR video and 3D sound format under two new brandswhich would use the existing codecs, but would improve the experiences of reproducing audiovisual content, according to a presentation to manufacturers to which it has had access Protocol.
