Google Wallet is now available in Mexico with these banks

The wallet is following in the footsteps of Apple, which launched Apple Pay in August 2021 with HSBC, Banorte and Banregio. On this occasion, the Mountain View company decided to form an alliance with banks, but also with some businesses, where they see one of the main challenges in adoption.

In this launch, Google Wallet made an alliance with Nu, Hey Banco, Banorte, Banregio, Inbursa, Mastercard and Visa and hopes to have the integration of Rappi Card, Santander and BBVA shortly. It is also collaborating with Aeroméxico, Cinemex, Proscai, Volaris and soon with Viva Aerobus.

“Beyond the alliances, we are also looking for developers to be able to integrate their applications and services into the wallet, therefore, beyond transactions, integrations with other applications are sought and that users can use it in more places,” he said. Carmen Quintanilla, Marketing Manager at Google Mexico.

How to use Google Wallet?

In order to use this application, it is essential that your phone has NFC technology, and you must also download the application directly from the Play Store. Once these two points are activated, the next thing is to integrate your debit and credit cards, for this you only have to go to the option to add card and the application will guide you to register it.

“In a similar way to what happens with a virtual card, the wallet generates a special token for each of the cards that you are activating, which encrypts the information and prevents it from being violated. In addition, it is essential that you have the phone unlocked to be able to carry out the transaction,” said Armando Betancour, leader of alliances at Google Wallet Mexico.

To pay, the business must have the option enabled, either physically or in its e-commerce and after choosing the card with which you will pay, the payment will be made without having to take out your physical card.

In addition to smartphones, it is possible to use this service with smart watches that have Wear OS, since they need to live on the same Android operating system.
