Google has started testing feature for Google Meet video callswhich is part of the initiative Workspace Labswith which it allows users generate custom backgrounds with Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The technology giant continues to implement improvements and innovations in its products in order to boost the use of AI and increase its capabilities. To do this, Google uses Workspace Labsa program designed for some users to test new AI features.
In this sense, Google has implemented a new feature for web version of google meet that makes possible the creation of custom backgrounds generated by AI, to use during the video calls. In this way, it is intended to “bring imagination to life in Meet”, since it is possible to request to represent any type of situation.
As the company has explained on their help pageto use this function users will have the opportunity to either create a background image before a meeting or do it during the meeting itself.
In both cases, a meeting must be selected and, in the lower right part of the screen, in which the user himself appearsclick on the option ‘Apply visual effects’. Then you must select ‘Generate a background’ and then, enter a description of the desired background.
As exemplified by Google, users will be able to enter descriptions like “luxurious interior hall” or “a magical glade and a sunny forest.” However, in order to achieve more accurate results, Google has detailed that this text should include references to a style, a mood, an environment, and objects in the environment.
Once the description has been entered, the AI generates various suggested background images so that the user can choose the one that best suits the fund that had been raised. In the event that the generated images do not fit the user’s idea, they can be reedit descriptions to create new images or view more suggested background images clicking on the ‘Create other samples’ button.
Finally, the user must choose the image and close this menu Of configuration. Likewise, as it is a function in tests, Google encourages users to report issues that could be improved by sending comments.
