Google News Showcase: this is how it seeks to avoid misinformation in Elections 2024

During the 2018 elections, Google also generated efforts from its platforms to verify information and above all to provide relevant data to users, such as the identification of polling places or the definition of the districts in which they had to vote. Now, what it is also looking for is that more reliable information is generated when users explore the Internet.

One of the tools that will be available is ‘About this result’, which will serve to provide information about the website they are visiting and thus give users more context of the sources they consult.

In addition, with the aim of providing digital tools to Mexican journalists and media, this year, the Google Training Network in alliance with Factual will continue training newsrooms in the country.

“We hope to train more than 1,400 journalists throughout more than 100 sessions that will be held in key states of the Mexican Republic,” the technology company specified.

The initiative to use fact checking tools will also be providing courses to 300 students from Mexican universities, who will be able to learn to verify data. With this new round of courses, the students that will be trained will be 550.

Another of the initiatives that Google Mexico will have will be a series of face-to-face sessions in the “Coffee with YouTube” format, where they will discuss the responsibility and transparency efforts of the video platform, as well as answer questions about the operation of this service.

“In the first edition we will share information about understanding community guidelines and guidelines, provide clarity on content removal, and present how, through a combination of human elements and technology, we combat harmful information,” the company said.
