Google Maps introduces immersive views of iconic monuments and new features for cyclists

Google has presented three new functionalities for its satellite navigation service Google Maps, among which the immersive view of different places and information on cycling routes stand out.

Google announced last May the arrival of new three-dimensional environments (3D) and the introduction of sustainable routes in Europe. He did it within the framework of the last Google I/O developer conference, where he also presented other news for Lens and the Assistant.

Now, taking advantage of travel, in which many users turn to this application to plan their trips; The company has announced three new features, available in the iOS and Android versions.

First of all, it has introduced the immersive view, an experience that combines Artificial Intelligence (AI) “with thousands of millions of aerial, satellite and Street View images in high definition” as he pointed out in a statement.

Thanks to this feature, travelers will be able to learn more about certain emblematic buildings, such as the New York Empire State Building (United States) using a photorealistic aerial view.

So far Google has made available to users views of nearly 100 of the world’s most popular landmarks in cities like Barcelona, ​​London, San Francisco or Tokyo.

To find out which ones are available, users just need to search for a landmark on Google Maps and go to the Photos section.

On the other hand, the Montain Vew has announced new features aimed at cyclists who, for more than 12 years, have been able to access directions based on AI technology combined with city data and comments from the Google Maps community.

With the new information provided by the platform, users will be able to compare cycling routes and learn more about its characteristics before starting the trip.


Among the data that Google Maps will offer from now on is information about traffic, places where it is not feasible to ride a bicycle because there are stairs or places that are very steep.

You will also be able to have a detailed breakdown of the route to be carried out, to know what type of terrain you are going to pass through, be it streets or highways.

Finally, Google has introduced a new notification system, which it has presented as a tool “to share the location, know when a person has reached or left their destination” and coordinate the schedules of both.

After share location With another contact, the user will be able to configure a notification to know, for example, when his companion has arrived at a concert.
