Google launches AI-powered email and image generator

“Catch me up on quarterly planning emails” is one example Google suggests for topics related to large time periods, or you can search for more specific details, such as “expenses from the last event.”

This is a new step in implementing generative AI in everyday processes, although it will not eliminate the traditional search process, based on the bar located at the top of the email.

It should be noted that this feature is only available to users who pay for a Gemini subscription and is expected to be applied to all files in a Drive account in the future. The company also confirmed that it will be available for iOS in the future.

The imager returns to Gemini

Another AI tool that was relaunched in Gemini is the image generator, which, like any other platform of the same nature, only requires one instruction to create an image in the style the user is looking for.

The feature was paused in February after users discovered it produced historically inaccurate results, such as Nazi soldiers depicted as black or Asian people.

Another example that made users upset and the company realized its mistakes was that images of the Founding Fathers of the United States had also been created and among the results there were non-white people generated by AI, which generated conspiracy theories that Google was avoiding depicting white people.

However, when requesting the image of “a 19th century senator,” the images included black or Native American women, when the first US senator was a white woman in 1922. For others, this case represented a way to erase the history of racial and gender discrimination.

One of the most significant changes to the feature is that it will no longer allow users to create photorealistic images of public figures, content involving minors, or bloody, violent, or sexual scenes.

Unlike Gmail’s existing tools, this new model, called Image 3, will be available to all users, whether they pay or not, and in all languages in which the platform is available.
