We have recently seen how several AMD Ryzen 7000X3D processors have been victims of what is preliminarily It looks like a problem with the voltages supplied by the motherboard, specifically on the VSoC line. This seemed to mainly affect ASUS motherboards, but Gigabyte seems to be having problems as well.
As we can read, Hardware Busters has been able to verify how in a Gigabyte AORUS Master X670E, with EXPO activatedused more than 1.3 volts for this power line, a voltage that for now is considered the maximum safe that can be used in these processors, and that beyond can cause the explosions that we have seen.
This problem is especially worrisome, considering that the F10 BIOS, which supposedly fixes this problem, keeps allowing the supply voltage to the processor to be excessively high, supplying up to 1.361v to the processor when the limit should be set at 1.300v.
It is clear that Gigabyte, whether on purpose or not, is misleading its users, making them believe that they still have a safe hardware configuration when, in fact, the system is still using the unsafe voltages that have already caused thousands of euros in damage to hardware. For now, if in doubt, the safest thing to do is leave EXPO disabled.
