Oct. 5 () –

The German Ministry of the Interior confirmed on Wednesday the repatriation of a group of German citizens, suspected Islamic State sympathizers, who were being held in northeastern Syria.

According to information collected by the newspaper ‘Der Spiegel’, these people will be transferred to Germany through a US Air Force transport plane that is located at a US air base in Kuwait.

This group, in which there would be four women and several of their children, all of them detained in Kurdish prison camps, come from regions such as Lower Saxony, Thuringia, Hesse, as well as North Westphalia, according to the aforementioned newspaper.

The operation has also had the help of the Federal Criminal Police. In addition, the Federal Public Ministry and other German legal bodies are investigating several of these women on suspicion of belonging to a terrorist organization, according to DPA.

The Ministry of the Interior has not provided further details, alleging reasons of privacy and protection of minors, among others. The confirmation comes after the German media reported the repatriation of several women and their children.
