Germany assures that Ukraine has promised not to export the weapons delivered by Berlin

The Government of Germany has assured this Thursday that it has the commitment of the Ukrainian authorities regarding the non-export of weapons supplied by Berlin in the framework of the war with Russia.

The German Executive has thus responded to a series of questions raised by the far-right Alternative for Germany party about the guarantees that the Government has regarding a possible proliferation of weapons in Ukraine.

Thus, Germany supports Ukraine in its “legitimate defense against the Russian war of aggression (…) with the supply of weapons, financial support and sanctions”, although the Government of kyiv is obliged not to export these weapons or deliver them to third parties, according to the response of the Executive, collected by the German Parliament.

However, the Government has acknowledged being aware of the responsibility associated with the supply of weapons, so “all deliveries of weapons are documented in detail” by the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Economy.

Finally, the Executive has shown its support for the European Union’s plan to create a database for the registration of firearms exported to Ukraine, in order to facilitate the tracing of weapons.
