BUCHAREST, July 15. (DPA/EP) –
The German Foreign Minister, Annalena Baerbock, announced this Friday that the country will allocate 77 million euros in aid to Moldova to deal with the consequences of the conflict in Ukraine ahead of the donor conference that will take place throughout the day in Bucharest, the capital of Romania.
The money will be used, in principle, to face the increase in energy prices and alleviate the needs of the Moldovan host communities due to the arrival of Ukrainian refugees due to the war.
Baerbock has also indicated that the assistance is an example that Europe “will not let them divide it.” Most of this amount, about 40 million euros, will cushion the consequences of rising prices of energy products such as electricity or oil.
In addition, 20 million euros will go to renewable energies and the promotion of efficient energy use, while 17 million euros will help thousands of refugees in Moldova.
On the other hand, the country will receive material aid, such as drones, off-road vehicles and equipment to facilitate the verification of documentation in border matters. These funds still have to receive the approval of the German Parliament before they can be disbursed.
More than 20 countries are expected to attend the donor conference in Bucharest this Friday. During his visit, Baerbock will travel to the port of Constanta to deal with the export of grain from Ukrainian ports.
