BERLIN 6 Nov. (DPA/EP) –
The German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, and the President of Somalia, Hasan Sheikh Mohamud, have agreed to promote the deportations of irregular migrants from this African country, a measure that, as they have explained, would mainly affect those who have committed serious crimes.
After a meeting between the two held this Tuesday in Berlin, Scholz said that they have agreed that migrants without the legal right to remain in Germany “will be repatriated quickly and effectively.” “This is also in the interest of the very large community of Somalis here in Germany, who are doing well and are well integrated,” he said.
A total of 65,000 Somalis live in Germany, although the German Chancellor has assured that only a “small number” do not have the right to remain in the country. For his part, the Somali president has praised Berlin’s role in welcoming and giving opportunities to refugees from his country.
