MADRID Dec. 15 () –
The Georgian Ministry of the Interior announced this Saturday the opening of an investigation in relation to the death of twelve people who were found dead on the second floor of an Indian restaurant located in the Gudauri ski resort.
“The Mtskheta-Mtianeti Police Department has launched an investigation under article 116 of the Penal Code – referring to the reckless death of a person – in relation to what was apparently a tragic accident that occurred in Gudauri, which resulted in the death of twelve people, found in a space converted into a bedroom,” reads a statement issued by the Georgian authorities.
The Interior’s hypothesis indicates that the twelve deceased, of whom eleven were foreigners, worked as employees of the same establishment in which they were found without apparent signs of violence.
Preliminary reports of the investigation have revealed that “near the bedrooms, in an internal closed space, there was a generator that was apparently turned on yesterday after the electricity supply to the establishment was interrupted.”
In the absence of more details about what happened, the Police “actively” continue the investigation of the case on the ground with the help of criminal experts, at the same time they are interrogating people who may be related to the case.
Along the same lines, the Ministry of the Interior adds in its letter, “the pertinent experts have been requested, as well as a judicial autopsy to determine the exact cause of death”, of which at the moment no further details are known.
