Latest news on the war between Russia and Ukraine
Sep. 6 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Russian gas company Gazprom announced on Tuesday that China will settle its new contracts for gas through the Power of Siberia pipeline in rubles and yuan, rather than dollars, under its agreement with the China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC). ).
“A transition was made to make payments for the supply of Russian gas to China in the national currencies of the countries: rubles and yuan,” said Gazprom director Alexey Miller, adding that the new mechanism is “a practical solution, reliable, timely and mutually beneficial”, according to the TASS news agency.
This decision came after a conference call between Miller and CNPC chief Dai Houliang, according to the Interfax news agency. It should be remembered that gas deliveries to the Asian giant are made under a long-term contract between Gazprom and the Chinese CNPC.
Russia sells to China gas from fields in eastern Siberia, which are not connected to its gas pipelines to the west, although Gazprom is working on the construction of an interconnector that in the future could allow it to redirect gas from its European neighbors to new clients in Asia.
