June 1 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The ‘number two’ of the Israeli war cabinet, Benjamin Gantz, has requested this Saturday an urgent meeting of this Israeli Government body to study the proposal presented on Friday by the US president, Joe Biden, for a ceasefire in the Strip. from Gaza.

“The United States has always demonstrated its commitment to Israel’s security and to the return of all hostages, particularly since the beginning of the war,” Gantz noted, according to The Times of Israel.

“The entire State of Israel is united by the desire for the return of our hostages and that is the maximum moral obligation, which does not diminish the obligation to achieve all the objectives of the war,” he added.

Israel therefore “wants to achieve the return of the hostages in accordance with what was proposed by the negotiation team and unanimously approved by the war cabinet.” That body “must meet as soon as possible together with the negotiating team to formulate the next steps,” he indicated.

The plan announced yesterday by Biden – whose preparation the president attributed to Israel – consists of three phases. The first of which consists of a complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas of Gaza, the partial release of hostages, the return of Palestinian civilians to their homes, and an increase in humanitarian aid.

The second phase consists of a permanent end to hostilities, the exchange of Palestinian prisoners for surviving hostages, and a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. The third and final stage would consist of the beginning of the reconstruction of Gaza and the delivery of the mortal remains of the deceased hostages.
