The dismissed Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant assured this Tuesday that a “moral darkness” has taken over the country after being dismissed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, amid clashes with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) in the Gaza Strip and with the Lebanese Shiite militia party Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Gallant has explained that he has been removed from office for his differences with Netanyahu regarding the recruitment of the ultra-Orthodox, the release of hostages held by Hamas in Gaza and the creation of a commission to investigate the failures of the authorities during the attacks of 7 October by the Palestinian militias.

“There is and never will be atonement for abandoning the hostages. It will become a mark of Cain on the forehead of Israeli society and for those who are on this wrong path,” he stressed in an appearance, adding that there is a “duty moral and ethical” of bringing the kidnapped people home.

Likewise, he has criticized the “discriminatory and corrupt” law on the recruitment of the Orthodox, while he has also defended the need to reach the “truth” with a commission that allows us to understand what happened on October 7 so that learning can be done. of military, political and security errors.

The former Defense Minister, who did not mention Netanyahu during his appearance, has indicated that his only mission during his mandate has been to want to achieve “victory” in his fight with Hamas, according to the newspaper ‘The Times of Israel’. .

Gallant concluded with an emotional military salute to the families of the dead, the wounded, the disabled, the kidnapped, as well as the Israeli soldiers deployed due to the offensive against Hamas and Hezbollah.

The prime minister’s office later indicated that Netanyahu has spoken with the chief of the Army Staff, Lieutenant General Herzi Halevi; Ronen Bar, who heads the Shin Bet, Israeli Intelligence and the director of the Mossad, David Barnea.

For his part, Israeli President Isaac Herzog has stressed in a message on the social network “The security of the State of Israel must be above all considerations,” he assured, without naming Gallant or Netanyahu.

“We must not retreat into the abyss. Israel’s enemies are only waiting for a sign of weakness, disintegration or division,” he said, adding that “the war still continues” and that “the objectives have not yet been fully achieved.”

Gallant’s dismissal is an issue that has been brewing for several weeks in Israeli politics due to his differences with Netanyahu. The head of Defense has been more inclined to reach agreements with Hamas to culminate in the release of the nearly one hundred hostages it still has in custody in Gaza, while the rest of the Cabinet advocates a more belligerent position.
