G7 members pay homage to atomic bomb victims in Hiroshima

May 19. (EUROPE PRESS) –

The international leaders of the G7 have visited the commemorative park of the attack with an atomic bomb in the city of Hiroshima, where this year’s summit is being held with Japan as host, on Friday morning.

In a simple tribute, the leaders have received wreaths from children of the city and have placed them next to the memorial that remembers the victims of the attack on August 6, 1945, when the United States Army dropped an atomic bomb over the city.

The place of the ceremony, as well as the celebration of the entire summit, intends to send a message against the use of nuclear weapons, in a context of war in Europe where Russia has repeatedly mentioned its ability to use this type of weapon .

They have also entered the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, within the park complex, where they have been able to visit the exhibition that recalls the history of the city.

The ceremony was attended by the President of the European Council, Charles Michel; the President of the European Parliament, Ursula von der Leyen; the Prime Minister of Japan, Fumio Kishida; the president of the United States, Joe Biden; the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Rishi Sunak; the chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz; the Italian prime minister, Giorgia Meloni; the president of France, Emmanuel Macron; and the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau.
