Fuenlabrada is once again named a candidate to become the European Youth Capital in 2027

Fuenlabrada has been selected, by second time in all its history, among the five finalist cities to become European Youth Capital 2027. Next to Malagais the only Spanish city who is competing for this title, which they are also competing as finalists Chisinau (Moldova), Parma (Italy) and Skopje (Macedonia). The process will conclude next fall.

Fuenlabrada has already opted for capital status by 2025, although on that occasion the process ended with the designation of Lviv (Ukraine) as European Youth Capital. The organization in charge of analyzing and deciding capital status is European Youth Forum (EYF)which is made up of more than a hundred organizations representing ten million young Europeans. The EYF works to empower young people, boost youth participation and strengthen European identity.

“The designation of Fuenlabrada as a finalist for European Youth Capital represents a new recognition of the policies and programs developed in the citymany of them financed with European funds“says the mayor of the municipality, Francisco Javier Ayala Ortega. The city of Madrid has, therefore, managed to be selected for the youth policies developed for years “always counting on the involvement of young people who work closely through the Youth Plenary and the Youth Council which represents all the youth associations of the municipality,” explains Ayala.

As he himself points out Fuenlabrada City Councilthe projects that are developed aimed at this sector of the population highlight the powerful package of measures to promote young people's access to housing through the Compartiran intergenerational solidarity program funded by European funds. In this way, of the total number of new construction homes planned, half will be protected housing to promote the emancipation of this sector of the population.

To all this we must add the nearly a thousand municipal aid who have received the people under 35 years old to help them with their energy expenses in the last two editions, in addition to those planned for the next date.

Also noteworthy are the Youth Employment, which offer free training for the unemployed; he Supported Employment Program (PECA) intended for young people with functional and intellectual diversity; Erasmus, which makes Fuenlabrada the first city to lead this initiative to promote exchanges between countries on the continent; either FuenEnglishthrough which the youth group receives scholarships to improve their level of English abroad.

On the other hand, the city will also open a European Information Officewhich will allow the young people themselves to tell their experiences and offer the required information, while the Solidarity Corps to promote the solidarity participation of young people in foreign communities.
