French Prime Minister Élisabeth Borne tenders her resignation but Macron rejects it

The Prime Minister of France, Elizabeth Bornehas tendered his resignation to the President, Emmanuel Macronwhich however has rejected it with the aim that “The government continues with its task” while the parliamentary panorama is clarified after the elections this Sunday.

Macron has been left without an absolute majority in the National Assemblywhich in the best of cases forces him to agree with external political forces if he wants to carry out some of the reforms he promised before the presidential ones.

Borne has responded to this new panorama by putting his resignation letter on Macron’s table, according to the Elysee, which has pointed out that Macron now wants to contact the heads of the different parties in search of “constructive solutions”, informs the French public television. Macron will meet at the Elysee with the leaders of the main parties to explore possible areas of understanding. Macron needs 44 more deputies to reach the threshold of the absolute majority of 289 seats that he lost in the last elections.

Élisabeth Borne was appointed in May. After the legislative ones, she has become the weak point of the French governmentwith several opposition politicians asking for his resignation, and generating doubts even in the ranks of the Macronist electoral coalition.

Among the members of the government whose resignation is expected is the Minister of Ecological Transition and Territorial Cohesion, Amalia de Montchalin, the Minister of Health, Brigitte Bourguignon, and the Secretary of State for the Sea, Justine Benin, the three defeated on Sunday in the second round.
