Free Trade Commission of the T-MEC will promote SMEs in the region

At the meeting of the free trade commission, which took place on July 7 in Cancun, Quintana Roo, the economy ministers of Mexico, the US and Canada, Raquel Buenrostro, Katherine Tai and Mary Ng, respectively, also reaffirmed their commitment to defend the rights of workers that were established in the T-MEC.

The meeting discussed the steps that each country takes to implement the obligations of the trade agreement in terms of prohibiting the importation of products made with forced labor.

They also listened to Mexican labor actors to incorporate these voices into trade policy.

Regarding the competitiveness of North America, there was a round with business delegations in which ideas were exchanged on economic integration and the role of the T-MEC in said process.

The ministers of the three countries spoke of the importance of complying with the terms of Decision Number 5 of the free trade commission, related to the creation of a mechanism for coordination and timely consultation at all levels of government and, if necessary, , regional in the event of the interruption of trade flows in the region due to an emergency, such as occurred with the coronavirus pandemic.
