June 1 () –
The President of France, Emmanuel Macron, expressed this Saturday his support for the Israeli peace plan presented on Friday by the US President, Joe Biden.
“The war in Gaza must end. We support the comprehensive agreement proposed by the United States. We work with our partners in the region in pursuit of peace and security for all,” Macron posted on his account on the X social network.
Macron has mentioned the “release of the hostages” and “a lasting ceasefire” that allows “working for peace and advancing the two-state solution” as key points of the Israeli proposal.
The plan announced yesterday by Biden – whose preparation the president attributed to Israel – consists of three phases. The first of which consists of a complete ceasefire, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from populated areas of Gaza, the partial release of hostages, the return of Palestinian civilians to their homes, and an increase in humanitarian aid.
The second phase consists of a permanent end to hostilities, the exchange of Palestinian prisoners for surviving hostages, and a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. The third and final stage would consist of the beginning of the reconstruction of Gaza and the delivery of the mortal remains of the deceased hostages.
Netanyahu, for his part, has insisted that this proposal remains subject to the political and military destruction of the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas.
