The French Justice is investigating the son of the President of Congo, Denis Christel Sassou Nguesso, for allegedly laundering 19 million euros in the country, according to the French media outlet Mediapart.
The criminal order, to which Mediapart had access, details years of investigation into Sassou -also Minister of International Cooperation in the Congolese Government since May 2021–, after Anti-Corruption seized a mansion suspected of belonging to the son in early summer by Denis Sassou Nguesso.
According to investigations, the properties are disproportionate to the official income declared by the minister. Therefore, the Sassou son’s mansion – as well as two other luxury apartments located in Paris – is considered to be the product of a large covert money laundering system derived from the embezzlement of oil revenues in Congo-Brazzaville.
Sassou’s lawyer has stated, for his part, to the French media that he is not the owner of the real estate, despite the judicial conclusions.
