The French authorities have announced a ban on the sale, possession and transport of fireworks ahead of the national holiday of Bastille Day on June 14 due to the riots unleashed after the death of the teenager Nahel M. at the hands of of a policeman in the city of Nanterre.
The decree will remain in force until next Saturday, the day after the holiday, although organizers of professional exhibitions that commemorate this day are excluded.
“The representatives and residents with whom I have met were quite nervous about the possibility of new incidents occurring,” the country’s Prime Minister, Élisabeth Borne, explained to the newspaper ‘Le Parisien’ in her comments on this ban.
The Prime Minister has guaranteed that the events will be protected by a large police deployment due to the riots in recent weeks.
