France and the Netherlands expressed their support for Romania’s accession process to the Schengen area on Friday in a trilateral meeting between the French Foreign Minister, Catherine Colonne, her Dutch counterpart, Wopke Hoekstra, and the Romanian Foreign Minister, Bogdan Aurescu, in Bucharest.
“The three ministers held talks on issues related to the European agenda, with an emphasis on Romania’s accession to the Schengen area. The heads of French and Dutch diplomacy reaffirmed the active and dedicated support given to Romania to achieve this goal,” according to collected in a statement by the Romanian Foreign Ministry.
Likewise, the three ministers have signed a joint declaration in Burarest for security cooperation that also includes the support of the three countries for Ukraine and their willingness to work in accordance with the policies of the EU and NATO.
In this sense, the three ministers have discussed during their trilateral meeting the preparation of the NATO summit in Vilnius this year at the same time that they have discussed the Russian invasion of Ukraine and its impact on neighboring states, especially Moldova.
“Our states are committed to expanding as well as deepening diplomatic relations and strengthening capacities to respond to both current and future threats and challenges to our security and shared values,” they stressed, according to the Romanian Foreign Ministry.
