In a statement on Wednesday, March 8, the management of France 24 expressed its “deep concern” after the accusation of three years in prison against its former correspondents in Algeria, Moncef Aït Kaci, and the director Ramadane Rahmouni.
The journalist and former correspondent for France 24 in Algeria, Moncef Aït Kaci, was tried on Wednesday in Algiers for “financing received from abroad and publication of information harmful to the national interest,” according to the prosecutor.
Moncef Aït Kaci had been arrested on July 28, 2020 and placed in preventive detention, before being released and officially accredited by the Algerian authorities.
A harsh sentence of three years in prison was requested against Aït Kaci and the journalist-director Ramadane Rahmouni, who have always practiced their profession professionally, rigorously and with total transparency.
While waiting for the verdict on March 22, the management of France 24 is deeply concerned by the accusation, but trusts in Justice and offers all its support to its former teams accredited in Algeria.
