() — A fourth bus arrived Tuesday night in Los Angeles with 41 migrants from Brownsville, Texas, the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles (CHIRLA) said in a statement.
The bus left Texas at around 4:25 p.m. local time on Monday and arrived at Union Station in Los Angeles at 6:30 p.m. (US Pacific Time) on Tuesday, the statement said. The group says they believe the bus trip was funded by the state of Texas. has reached out to Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s office for comment.
Thirty-five adults and six children between the ages of one and 15 were traveling on the bus and they came from a variety of countries, including Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras and Venezuela, the statement said. The migrants will be connected to their loved ones or sponsors on the West Coast of the United States, they said.
Zach Seidl, the spokesman for Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, also confirmed the arrival of the migrants, saying they noticed the bus yesterday as they had in previous arrivals. “The city has continued to work with city and county departments and a coalition of nonprofit organizations, as well as our faith-based partners, to execute a plan established earlier this year,” she said in a statement.
CHIRLA executive director Angélica Salas called on the Biden administration to provide protection for asylum seekers and give more funding to non-profit organizations and community groups that help migrants “as we see more and more buses arrive at California and other states”.
“We do not confuse these episodes of busing as well intentioned. Texas and Florida have shown a callous disregard for the human experience, especially as it relates to black and brown-skinned asylum seekers. Busing immigrants anywhere in the middle of a scorching summer is unkind, cruel and unjustified,” he said in a statement.
