Four Mexican soldiers will be prosecuted for the death of five young people

( Spanish) — A federal judge in Tamaulipas decided to link to the process four Mexican soldiers accused of qualified homicide and attempted homicide for the death of five young people that occurred on February 26 in Nuevo Laredo, according to data provided by the Council of the Judiciary .

The judge also decided to maintain the pretrial detention measure for the defendants and authorize a two-month period for the additional investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office.

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has already said that there will be no impunity in this case.

The Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) had already admitted that several soldiers participated in the violent act and reported days ago through a statement that it collaborates with the National Human Rights Commission in the investigation of the fact.

According to Sedena, the military fired their firearms at a truck after hearing “a noise.” The institution reported in a statement that there were seven individuals in the vehicle “who were speeding with their lights off and without license plates.” The troops were in the urban area of ​​the municipality “in support of the public security structure.”
