Several people are missing and at least four others They are seriously injured by an explosion recorded this Tuesday in the facilities of a hydroelectric plant in the Italian Suviana reservoir, according to local media.

The explosion occurred around 3:00 p.m. local time (1300 GMT) at the hydroelectric power plant of this artificial lake located in the Apennine mountain range, near the city of Bologna (northern Italy), reports Efe.

At the moment, according to the first information published by the media, about ten employees were injured, four of whom suffered serious burns, while another six people are still missing.

The mayor of the nearby town of Camugnano, Marco Masinara, confirmed this first assessment in statements to RAI public television, although pointing out that it is still provisional.

The explosion, according to a first reconstruction presented by the councilor, occurred on the -9 floor of this hydroelectric plant, which extends 30 meters below the lake water level, while maintenance work on the turbines was being carried out.

Firefighters and members of the Carabineros (Italian militarized police) have already arrived at the scene and some injuries of varying degrees have been removed.

However, firefighters have not yet managed to reach the plant affected by the explosion and subsequent fire.

The hydroelectric plant was built in 1975, is managed by the Enel company and is the most powerful in the Emilia-Romagna region.
