Fortnite: why disabling cross-play is the best thing to do

Fortnite has maintained its user-centric approach since its launch. This is how Epic Games has opted for cross-play since its inception so that the community has more chances to fill the servers and thus prevent a console from taking the entire Battle Royale monopoly. However, there is a good reason to disable crossplay in your next games.

A user of Redditidentified as u/engineeraorborne, shared in a Reddit forum why you can improve your experience on Fortnite if you disable the cross-play feature. We share your testimony:

“I almost always play with my wife, and she’s on a PS4 and I’m on an XBOX, so I won’t keep this setup, but I wanted to try it out and see if it felt different. And yes she did. I didn’t want to win the game, but without even trying I got 11 kills before a sniper took me out. I watched the rest of the game and the same sniper took out almost all of the remaining 9 players.”.

“I’m not a horrible player, but I’ve been known to make some quick starts, but the play in this game told me a lot. I wish they only had a console-only option to join lobbies. I get it, there are a lot of great console players out there, but it would be nice to have the options to play without computer players if you want.”.

Many players of Fortnite they maintain that PC gamers have an advantage over console, and this is something that was echoed in the comments of the Reddit post. Players also noted the long queue time while matchmaking in the console-only lobby. The number of bots is also a concern.

While most argue that PC players disrupt gameplay, SBMM’s (skill-based matchmaking) solution of populating the lobby with bots isn’t great either. In the end, it’s the console gamers who suffer. Despite all this, one player in the comments empirically proved that the reason for this outage is not PC gamers. Instead, it is low-skilled players who turn off the cross-play feature to avoid matches against PC players.
